Turn a solved word into a useful money question

FinWord is a daily vocabulary puzzle. Guessing the letters is the game; understanding the term is the learning step. After the answer appears, ask what the term measures, which country or product it belongs to, and whether its value is a rate, a fee, a tax threshold or a deadline. Those distinctions matter more than memorising a definition.

Consider the phrase “annual fee.” A hypothetical 0.5% fee on a $10,000 balance is about $50 for a year if that balance stays unchanged. The same 0.5% applied to a changing balance will produce a different cash charge. A product may also have transaction costs or other charges, so the headline percentage is not always the total cost. One short term can lead to several concrete questions worth asking before you invest.

Use the glossary to read a full explanation and then follow its related country-specific tool when one exists. If the day's word concerns a tax or benefit rule, check the date and official source as well: policy can change while the word stays the same. The puzzle is a starting point for that check, not financial advice or an assessment of your knowledge.
